Reading

"Do not read, as children do, to amuse yourself,

or like the ambicious, for the purpose of instruction.

No, read in order to live."

Gustave Flaubert

Reading is a very popular free time activity, and many people really love it. If you are one of those, why don't you start reading English books for pleasure?

If you want to find something  in English, without loosing the pleasure of reading, only because you might have chosen something too difficult for you, I suggest you to try the following TESTS:

the B1 level should correspond to the STAGE 3, and you can find two self-checking tests on this pagethe 'pass' mark for each test is 80%. If you score less than this, you will be recommended to try a lower level. If you score above 95%, you will be recommended to try a higher level.

Oxford University Press publisher offers a big range of titles: if you are one of those who read the back cover of a book to find out something more about its content, you might enjoy this GAME.

Another site that offers free downloadable books is Project Gutenberg: Project Gutenberg (PG) is a volunteer effort to digitize and archive cultural works, to "encourage the creation and distribution of eBooks". It was founded in 1971 by Michael S. Hart and is the oldest digital library. Most of the items in its collection are the full texts of public domain books. The project tries to make these as free as possible, in long-lasting, open formats that can be used on almost any computer. As of March 2013, Project Gutenberg claimed over 42,000 items in its collection.

If you are more interested in the news, a very good site that gives you hte possibility to read, listen and watch the latest news is Voice of America:
there are news from the world, about education, about health, about entertainment, and about science and technology.

This site also offers lessons that are built around news: there are 2 levels of English you can choose from.

Have a good time reading!
